1971 Graduated from West of England College of Art (Bristol Polytechnic) with Dip AD Hons Fine Art (Sculpture)
From 1971 until the present I have worked as a freelance visual artist, plus additional freelance work mainly in the public arts field as consultant, researcher and manager.

Recent/current practice-led projects:
2012 Mentor to Spring Fling Young Artist bursary award winner
2011-12 The Stove project – a collaborative project to make a creative arts space in a building in the centre of Dumfries that provides a social and meeting place for the general public and the creative community. In addition the Stove will lead a programme of arts projects for public spaces and people in the town.
2007-12 Iris – Books Made by Artists, a collaborative curatorial project to develop a series of exhibitions and events to raise awareness of current practice relating to artists’ books. The inaugural exhibition Place Identity and Memory, opened Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries, May 2009, toured until October 2009. The forthcoming exhibition, books of Magic Power Place, is under development.
2005 3 month mentoring residency at the Scalloway Booth, Shetland, a joint project by WASPS, SAC and the Shetland Arts Trust
2004-8 Lead artist for a public art programme integral to the new arts centre for CatStrand, New Galloway (supported by Scottish Arts Council)
2003-4 Commission by North Ayrshire Council for public artworks at 3 sports pavilions in etched stainless steel
Public arts consultation work:
2008-2010 Lead Artist Curator and Project Manager to develop and implement a programme of therapeutic art and design features for The West Centre: children’s community health and care, Drumchapel, Glasgow. Received Saltire Society Arts and Crafts in Architecture Award 2011 and NHS Facilities Scotland Design Award. Nominated for Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award.
1998-2008 Project management of ‘Primary Space’, major project working with artist Bruce McLean on the design and building of a new primary school for Dalry, North Ayrshire

2001-2002 Mentor to artists commissioned for the Irwell Sculpture Trail, Lancashire
1999-2001 Lead Artist for ‘Rites of Passage’ – year-long participatory arts event initiated by Dumfries and Galloway Arts Association. Designing, managing and collaborating on a rolling programme of projects involving 200 artists and 10,000 community members
1998-2002 Public Art Development Officer for North Ayrshire Council (part time post), contracted from Independent Public Arts, Edinburgh (now Ginkgo Projects). Responsibilities include initiating and managing projects, recruiting and selecting artists, major fundraising (including Lottery), developing public art strategy. Projects include:
New Street, Stevenston – artworks for new housing development
Beith Primary School –artworks integral to new building
Lawthorn primary School – innovatory project with Bruce McLean to develop new models for design of school buildings, resulting in major exhibition and seminar at Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh (March 2000) and intervention to new school building
